A Happy People

Psm. 144:15 says, “Happy is that people whose God is the Lord.” There is such a need for true happiness today. Most people are looking for it in all the wrong places. God must be your Lord if you are to know the possession of a genuine, happy life. God gives His people His mercy, wisdom, power, riches, plenty and faithfulness. No wonder we can be a “happy people.” Consider with me reasons why we are happy pilgrims.

I. Happy Because We Have A Refuge in the Time of Need

There is a verse that says, “God is a refuge for us” (Psm. 62:8). The word “refuge” is translated in other places as “shelter.” It means a shelter from danger. Every day we are faced with various dangers. Storms suddenly come upon us but we have a shelter to which we can run. The word ”refuge” is translated “trust” one time in the KJV. We run to the Lord in the time of trouble as a shelter because we trust Him completely.

II. Happy Because We Can Expect To Have Every Need Met

Phil. 4:19 promises us that God will supply every need we may have in life. If we did not have needs, we would not fully realize just how faithful the Lord is to supply. “Supply” has the idea of “filling to the top so there is nothing lacking as far as fulness goes.” It means there will always be enough that God's people will be liberally supplied. The Bible says God “will supply.” Never doubt it! Trust Him fully!

III. Happy Because We Have A Friend That Sticks Closer Than Any Brother

Read Prov. 18:24. I was privileged to have one physical brother in life, but he died at approximately 37 years of age. He was not able to “stick” with me. There is an advertisement on television that says, “I am stuck on band aids, cause band aids stuck on me.” I love the Lord because He sticks with me in good times and bad times.

IV. Happy Because We Have a Sure Prospect of Being With the Lord Forever

1 Thess. 4:17 says, “So shall we ever be with the Lord.” After Jesus comes back in the air to catch away His blood washed church, we will be with Him forever, and ever, and ever, worlds without end. We should be happy even in times of troubles and heartaches because it will not be long until we are with our Lord in a perfect place forever.
