Why You Should Witness to Others

When a person is filled with the Spirit of God he or she will witness spontaneously for the Lord. Acts 1:8 says, “But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you, and ye shall be witnesses unto me…” There are several reasons why we should witness for Christ.

I. The Lost Condition of Man

Everyone born of Adam's race, with an earthly father or mother is born a lost individual. The Bible teaches that we go astray from the womb (Psm. 58:3). That verse says: “They go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.” A person does not have to do anything to be lost; we are born lost and in need of the Savior.

II. The Lasting Command of the Scriptures

The Great Commission to witness is given in the first four books of the New Testament: Matt. 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:47; John 20:21. The born again child of God has a responsibility to witness of the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. If for no other reason we should witness because Christ has commanded us to give the story of Jesus and His love. We should love to tell the story anywhere, any time, in any place.

III. The Love Demonstrated by the Savior

Romans 5:8 says that Christ, “commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” The Scriptures tell us: “He by the grace of God should taste death for every man” (Heb. 2:9). If Jesus loves sinners that much, they need to know about it. If they are to know, we who are the redeemed are the ones to tell them. If we know the remedy for man's sins and do not tell the sinner about it, we would be worse than someone who had a lasting cure for cancer and would not share it with others.

IV. The Length of Eternal Retribution

The Word of God refers to Hell twice as “everlasting fire” (Matt. 18:8; 25:41). That simply means eternal retribution and judgment is not temporary. It will last forever and ever. Because Hell is an eternally horrible place where no one can escape, we must warn the sinner of what awaits him if he rejects and refuses to turn to Jesus Christ for salvation.

V. The Life That The Sinner Can Receive

The words “eternal life” are given together 27 times in the New Testament scriptures. Jesus said in John 10:28, “And I give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish.” It is far better to possess eternal life than to face eternal death, which is separation from Holy God forever and ever. Think about it! You can help someone have eternal life, so give the gospel, in order that eternal life might be theirs as a present possession. Will you give out the life saving message of the cross?
